Musical Instruments

Sudan

Senegal

Congo

These objects are sometimes melodious and are used to accompany most of the time, ritual ceremony singing and dancing. In certain cases, simple sounds are used to signal and invoke spirits.

As is the general norm in the utilization of African objects, the pieces have clear rules as to who can own, show or play them and for what purposes. From these original instruments have emanated rhythms that are reminiscent in American Jazz and Latin American dance.
